Time to give ‘Bullies’ a break
While no one likes a bully, the RSPCA says it’s time to give the canine version a second chance.
Despite being in the top five dog breeds registered with Brisbane City Council, they’re one of the most common types of dogs being brought into RSPCA.
Out of over 13,000 dogs that RSPCA Queensland cared for last year, the top three mixed breeds were English Staffordshire Bull Terriers, American Staffordshire Bull Terriers and Bull Arabs.
The unfortunate reality for these loveabull pups is that they wait the longest at RSPCA for a new home, with bull-type dog breeds waiting over a month on average, compared to other mixed breeds who generally spend around half that time waiting for a new home.
RSPCA Queensland spokesperson Alex Hyndman Hill says it’s time to see our beautiful bullies in a different light.
“At the RSPCA we love our Bull Arabs, American and English Staffordshire Bull Terriers, American Bulldogs, Bull Mastiffs, well the list goes on,” she said.
“Sadly some people still think they can be aggressive, uncontrollable and untrustworthy. The truth is, if they’re trained and given love and affection, like any other dog breed, the reverse is true. They’re irresistibull, adorabull, huggabull and make great family pets.
From April 15 to 28, we want to help our bull-type dog breeds find a loving new home and break negative perceptions surrounding animals that just happen to look a certain way.
A desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, behaviourally assessed and vet checked adult bull-type dog breed at the RSPCA can be yours for just $199*… and that’s no bull!
To give a second chance to an RSPCA ‘bully’, check out the bull-type dog breeds included in our promotion, or visit your local RSPCA Adoption Centre in QLD, NSW, ACT, VIC WA and NT.
*prices are for adult bull-type dog breeds available to adopt at RSPCA Adoption Centres. Some mixed breeds include Staffordshire Bull Terriers, Bull Arabs, Bullmastiffs, American Bulldogs and Bull Terriers.
