Les 12 races de chats aux yeux bleus : qui sont-elles ?

De très nombreuses personnes recherchent un chat aux yeux bleus. Voici 12 races qui possèdent tous les atouts pour les satisfaire, tant en termes de couleur d’iris que de caractère. Intelligents, affectueux, faciles à vivre pour la plupart, ce sont d’adorables petits compagnons.

Le Balinais

Grandes oreilles, yeux en amande, poils mi-longs et corps longiligne.

Très proche du Siamois, Le Balinais est d’une grande élégance et porte sa queue comme un plumeau. Il aime être au cœur des attentions et miaule très fréquemment, ce qui n’est pas toujours apprécié. Câlin, proche de son maître, il aime jouer avec les enfants.

Le Bengal

Corps athlétique au splendide pelage dont les taches rappellent étrangement celles du léopard.

Hyperactif et dominant, Le Bengal issu du croisement entre un chat domestique et un chat léopard asiatique sauvage est très curieux de nature. Il n’aime pas vivre seul, l’idéal étant qu’il puisse cohabiter avec un chat d’une autre race, non dominant, patient et sociable. Avec son physique de vrai fauve, il génère la fascination partout où il passe. Il a besoin d’être canalisé mais aussi éduqué dès son plus jeune âge.

Le British Shorthair

Avec sa tête toute ronde, ses yeux en forme de billes, son épaisse fourrure courte et très douce, il a quelque chose d’un ours en peluche.

Bon caractère, facile à vivre, câlin, calme, le British Shorthair a tout pour faire des maîtres heureux, surtout s’ils recherchent un chat capable de passer le plus clair de son temps à l’intérieur. Il adore jouer avec les enfants et s’entend parfaitement avec les autres animaux. Tous les British shorthair n’ont pas les yeux bleus, ceux-ci étant systématiquement assortis à la couleur du poil. Ce peut donc être le cas du British shorthair colourpoint.

L’Ojos Azules

Son nom espagnol signifie  » yeux bleus « , magnifique regard plein de tendresse, toujours bleu, quelle que soit la couleur de sa fourrure, ce qui est assez rare.

D’une grande élégance avec son corps longiligne malgré sa forte ossature, ce sportif s’accommode d’une vie à l’intérieur comme à l’extérieur pourvu que l’Ojos Azules puisse être câliné lorsqu’il en a envie et que l’on respecte ses moments de repos.

L’Himalayen

Belle fourrure longue et soyeuse, corps assez court et pattes trapues, regard azur très lumineux.

On l’appelle aussi Colourpoint (ou Colorpoint). L’Himalayen choisit scrupuleusement les personnes avec lesquelles il saura se montrer plein d’affection. Très proche de son maître, il aime être câliné. Calme, il a très bon caractère.

Le Siamois

Tête portant un masque assez sombre, yeux en amande.

Le Siamois a bon caractère, se montre sociable été toujours très enjoué. Il déteste la solitude.

Le Ragdoll

Regard très expressif, long poil soyeux qui ne s’emmêle jamais, caractère très facile.

Le Ragdoll est considéré comme le plus câlin de tous qui se laisse porter sans aucune résistance si bien que dans les bras il se transforme en  » poupée de chiffon  » d’où son nom.

Le Sacré de Birmanie

Couleur du Siamois et épaisse fourrure du Persan.

Affectueux, calme, Le Sacré de Birmanie suit son maître partout et sans relâche.

Le Snowshoe

Poils courts ou mi-longs, gantage blanc quelle que soit la couleur de la robe.

Le Snowshoe adore jouer, se montre très affectueux il adore les câlins. Il s’entend bien avec les animaux en général et est un excellent compagnon pour les enfants. Il est aussi apprécié pour sa délicatesse, son caractère facile, équilibré, son calme et sa douceur. Toutefois, il miaule assez fréquemment.

Le Sphynx

Chat nu au corps fin doux au toucher.

Le Sphynx est intelligent, calme, agréable, affectueux et il aime jouer. Très sociable, il peut suivre son maître partout. Il s’entend bien avec les enfants et se montre patient avec les animaux en général.

Le Tonkinois

Poil court ou long, corps athlétique à la fine ossature, grands yeux en amande.

Certains Tonkinois ont les yeux ambre, d’autres bleu azur. Très affectueux et calme, il adore jouer. Il apprécie la vie en famille car il s’entend avec les personnes adultes comme avec les enfants. Il déteste la solitude et est très démonstratif de l’affection qu’il voue à ses maîtres.

Le Turc de Van

Appelé aussi chat de l’Arche de Noé ou encore chat du lac de Van : grand chat à poils mi-longs.

Le Turc de Van possède une personnalité atypique car il est absolument fan de l’eau ! C’est donc un chat nageur. Très intelligent, courageux et volontaire, il est assez indépendant, mais n’en reste pas moins très attaché à ses maîtres avec lesquels il aime partager toutes sortes de jeux. Il accueille facilement les personnes étrangères à sa famille même s’il se montre parfois timide, et accepte tout aussi bien les autres animaux, qu’il s’agisse de ses congénères ou pas.

Parmi ces petits félins, certains peuvent avoir assez fréquemment les yeux vairons comme c’est le cas de l’Ojos Azules par exemple. Pour d’autres, au sein d’une portée peut se trouver un chaton aux yeux bleus qui, quelques mois plus tard, peut tout à fait arborer un regard d’une autre couleur. Dans la majorité des cas toutefois, ces chats ont les yeux bleus.

Chat Blanc en Provence

Le chat blanc se caractérise par plusieurs traits :

1. Pelage entièrement blanc.
2. Coussinets, nez et intérieur des oreilles roses.
3. Ses yeux peuvent être de couleur jaune, verte, bleue ou vairon.
4. La surdité des chats blancs aux yeux bleus est un phénomène connu depuis le 19e s. Il serait directement lié au gène W.
5. Il est intéressant de noter que chez les chats blancs aux yeux vairons, l’oreille atteinte de surdité serait toujours celle du côté de l’œil bleu !

Il ne faut pas confondre le chat blanc et le chat patron bicolore qui possède des poils blancs.

1. L’un des plus connus est le chat colourpoint qui est un patron siamois.

Le persan blanc est né du croisement des angoras turcs et des persans bleus.

1. Les persans chinchillas sont blancs. Ils ont le plus souvent les yeux verts émeraude et  » maquillés  » (bord noir).
2. L‘exotic shorthair est la seule variété de persans à poil court reconnue par les standards.

Chats blancs et Persans célèbres

• Couple de chats persans de Nicolas-Claude Fabri de Peiresc (1580 – 1637).
  1. Le conseiller au parlement d’Aix-en-Provence, importe en Provence un couple de chats persans venant de Damas.
  2. De Peiresc introduit un couple de chats persans en France.
  3. De Peiresc est notamment connu pour avoir entrepris de dresser la première carte de la Lune fondée sur des observations télescopiques.
     1. Il découvre également la nébuleuse d’Orion.
  4. Le conseiller est originaire de Belgentier (83).
  5. Numismate, égyptologue, historien, botaniste, zoologue, astronome, géographe, paléontologue… De Peiresc est infatigable dans ses recherches.

• Chat blanc de la reine Victoria.
  1. 17e s. Le premier Persan est importé en Italie par l’explorateur Pietro della Valle.

• SH III est un persan chinchilla qui est présent dans de nombreux films et les publicités pour la nourriture pour chat Gourmet.

La plupart des chats blancs aux yeux bleus sont nés sourds. Ce handicap est dû à une maladie congénitale.

Une maladie génétique venue de la couleur de la robe

La surdité viendrait d’une mutation du gène W (pour “white”) qui donne aux poils du chat leur couleur blanche. Si votre félin n’est pas totalement blanc, il n’a sûrement pas le gène W, mais le gène S (pour Spot blanc).

Le gène W est responsable de la non-pigmentation du poil, mais aussi de l’iris dans 60 % à 70 % des cas. C’est pourquoi les chats blancs ont souvent les yeux bleus.

Ce même gène est aussi responsable de surdité, c’est le cas chez 40 % à 50 % des chats porteurs du gène. La surdité apparaît dans les 5 premiers jours de vie du chaton.

Comment vivre avec un chat sourd ?

Un chat sourd peut avoir une très belle vie. Avec une surdité génétique, il va le plus souvent compenser en développant ses autres sens.

Si votre chat présente ce handicap, c’est qu’en extérieur, il sera plus vulnérable à certains dangers comme les voitures. Habituez-le, dès le plus jeune âge à sortir et se familiariser avec son environnement. Commencez dans un espace extérieur clos, comme un jardin ou un parc, pour l’habituer.

Pensez également à protéger ses oreilles avec de la crème solaire, lorsqu’il sort, afin qu’il ne prenne pas de coup de soleil et ne développe pas de maladie ou cancer de la peau.

Si vous laissez votre chat se promener seul, pensez bien à écrire vos coordonnées sur son collier et à lui faire poser une puce électronique d’identification chez votre vétérinaire.

Pour le dressage, vous devez établir une connexion avec votre chat par les gestes et non pas avec des ordres exprimés vocalement. Montrez lui ce que vous attendez et félicitez-le (avec des caresses ou des friandises) quand il se comporte bien.
